If you happen to live in, or be visiting Los Angeles, make sure to visit the local County Museum of Art to check out a miniature city called Metropolis II. This is a kinetic sculpture that took conceptual artist Chris Burden years to built. It’s been on display since 2011 and is still ongoing.
Metropolis II is 18-lane miniature race track that looks like a roller coaster surrounded by miniature skyscrapers and buildings. The result is a rattling cacophony of 100,000 cars movements per hour that resembles a fast paced, frenetic modern city. Built on the H0 scale (the odd 1:87.1), miniature cars speed through the city at a relative speed of 240 miles per hour.
