If you are a skyscraper fan and haven’t seen the movie Star Trek Beyond, we urge you to go and see the movie while you can. The previous movie ‘Into Darkness’ already showed us a futuristic San Francisco, but this time they take height into outer space. Yorktown has the ring of an unlike name, but the namesake starbase is a Federation space station located near the Necro Cloud nebula. With Star Trek’s Deep Space Nine, that spinning wheel in Damon’s Elysium and an M.C. Escher image in mind, Yorktown is a giant sphere with skyscrapers growing out of its structural beams. Or as the cantankerous Dr. McCoy puts it, “a giant snowglobe in space just waiting to break.” How much I would give to be able to walk around that place for a day, but I’ll guess we’ll have to do with the screenshots. Here we go!
I’m sure you already guessed correctly that Dubai skyscrapers are heavily featured here, and indeed much of the Yorktown scenes were filmed in the Emirates city.
